Terms of use

The rules that govern the use of animALERTE.

Last updated: August 2, 2026

1. Acceptance of terms

By creating an account or using animALERTE, you agree to these terms of use. If you do not agree with any of them, please do not use the service.

2. Nature of the service

animALERTE is a community broadcast tool that helps report and find lost or found pets in Quebec. The service connects owners, the community, and a network of businesses and partners called "Sentinels".

3. No guarantee of results

animALERTE in no way guarantees that a reported animal will be found. The service is a visibility and broadcast tool; it does not replace your own efforts or the services of a professional. We provide you with means, without any obligation of result.

4. User account

Posting a listing requires an account. You are responsible for the accuracy of your information and the confidentiality of your password. You must be of legal age or have the authorization of a parent or guardian.

5. Your listings

You warrant that the information and photos you post are accurate, belong to you or that you have the right to use them, and do not infringe the rights of others. We may remove any listing that is misleading, fraudulent, offensive, or non-compliant.

6. Plans and payments

Reporting a found animal is always free. For a lost animal, paid plans (a one-time payment per listing, no subscription) unlock additional broadcast features. Payments are securely processed by our payment provider; animALERTE never stores your card details. All payments are final: no refunds are possible, including where a listing did not lead to the animal being found. While your listing is active, you may at any time move from a free plan to a paid plan by paying that plan’s full price. Upgrading from a paid plan to a higher one (paying only the difference) is, however, only possible within twenty-four (24) hours of paying for the current plan; after that period, the paid plan becomes final. No plan downgrade or refund is possible.

7. Priority display (7 days)

The Regional and Province-wide plans grant priority display: your listing appears at the top of the lists and in the priority alerts carousel on the home page for seven (7) days following payment. After that period, your listing remains active and viewable for up to one year, but is no longer given priority placement. An upgrade to a higher plan, made within the permitted window, restarts this seven (7) day period from the moment of the upgrade.

8. Alerts and advertising

Depending on the plan, an "alert" includes a broadcast on our geolocated internal network (Sentinel) and targeted advertising on Meta platforms (Facebook and Instagram) within a given radius. The reach of alerts varies by plan and does not constitute a guarantee of exposure to a specific audience.

9. Anonymity and contact details

animALERTE protects your personal contact details: they never appear publicly on a listing or poster. People who find your animal can reach you through the toll-free line or anonymous messaging, without your personal number being disclosed.

10. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, animALERTE and Sauvetage Animal Rescue cannot be held liable for direct or indirect damages related to the use of the service, the accuracy of listings, the behaviour of users, or the outcome of a report.

11. Privacy

The processing of your personal information is described in our privacy policy. By using the service, you consent to this processing.

12. Changes

We may change these terms at any time. The update date above indicates the version in effect. Continued use of the service constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
